TEFAF Maastricht ran from 10-19 March 2017 in the MECC, Maastricht and welcomed over 71,000 visitors, from over 60 nationalities, demonstrating the wide reaching international appeal of the 275 dealers. In a year of significant development for TEFAF, with the addition of two fairs in New York, the unrivalled heart of the organisation, the 30-year-old fair in Maastricht, continued to provide a dynamic sales platform for its exhibitors. Both private and institutional buyers acquired some of the finest works available on the market, with sales reported across all price points and throughout all sections. TEFAF Maastricht continues to be an important event for museums from around the world, with over 200 visiting.

TEFAF Maastricht continuously evaluates its offering, and each year takes steps to maintain its position as the world’s leading fine art and antiques fair. One such initiative is TEFAF Curated, a sub-section of TEFAF Modern, which this year took place for the third time. Hidde van Seggelen, TEFAF Board member and driving force behind the contemporary initiative, said “The aim with TEFAF Curated has been twofold – firstly to present contemporary works within TEFAF Maastricht in order to broaden the Fair’s offering and appeal. Secondly, the diversity presented within Curated sparks conversations, both between visitors, curators, connoisseurs and art world professionals, as well as between objects and cultures.”
Penelope Curtis, Director of the Museu Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisboa, was invited to curate the third edition of TEFAF Curated, this year entitled La Grande Horizontale. Of the section, Penelope said “It was a different kind of space for an art fair, and within its distinctive design, art works which normally would never meet now spoke to each other in a new way.”

The next edition of TEFAF Maastricht will take place from 9-18 March 2018 at the MECC, Maastricht. TEFAF New York Spring will take place from 4-8 May 2017 and the second edition of TEFAF New York Fall will take place from 27-31 October 2017, both at the Park Avenue Armory.
